GambOS Release cycle
As GambOS is a distribution aimed at learning Gambas it's release cycles are aimed around the Gambas version it will provide. This has to do with the Gambas Learning Guides, as the Gambas version run on GambOS is the one that is discussed and illustrated with screenshots in the guides.
The aim is to follow the pace of the guides rather than the hype of the 'latest and greatest', this to ensure a non-confusing environment for the Gambas student.
1. GambOS versions explained
1.1. GambOS Major version
The GambOS major version is based on a dressed down Debian release with a dressed down MATE desktop. If the combi Debian release and MATE desktop is based on a more recent version, the GambOS Major version will go up
GambOS Major version:

1.2. GambOS Minor version
The minor version is based on the Gambas version running on the major version. If the repositories are updated with a higher Gambas version, meaning a complete remaster of all Gambas Learning Guides written at that moment, this version will go up.
Minor version updates are definitly not a goal and will only take place if circumstances really require a higher Gambas version, as this also involves that all Gambas Learning guides need a complete rework. A GambOS Major update is more likely to see a Gambas version update.

1.3. GambOS Build Major version
Each Build major version stands for a new iso created and, since build 26 of GambOS 2.0, a new Raspberry Pi image.
The iso updates will accumulate all GambOS Build Minor version updates into a new iso (or image for Pi), with the most recent GambOS applications, the most recent Gambas and GambOS guides and latest kernel update. It can also involve new GambOS applications and new GambOS system maintance.

1.4. GambOS Build Minor version
These can be new GambOS application releases, GambOS system adjustments, new Gambas backports, other required additions and/or removals. In short specific GambOS maintainace.

2. Overview
2.1. Current and planned upcoming version
If you do a new install from iso, or start with a fresh Pi image, you will be on build 28.

2.2. Future release plans
For GambOS Book 4, I will need at least Gambas version 3.22.0, as there have been changes done to the Gambas library system to fix some essential bugs, mainly in the versioning and distribution of Gambas libraries.
These changes are impossible to backport as they also involve interpreter changes, so a higher version Gambas is the best solution.
Since Gambas Book 4 will be on libraries, that Gambas version will need to be higher. This also requires a lot of rework on existing Books first. Do not expect this in short term as Gambas Book 3 is currently still in writing.
