GambOS Applications

GambOS applications are the applications that come with GambOS. These applications are all written in Gambas and are part of the desktop provided. The goal is to have a good deal of the pre-installed applications on GambOS be Gambas applications.

First of all, it will function as a showcase, where one can experience the power of, in Gambas created applications. Second, many of the applications are those you can learn to build yourself in one of the Gambas learning Guides.

The Gambas applications come in two tastes, being GambOS core and GambOS learning applications

Core applications.

The GambOS core applications, as the name implies, are at the core of providing a functional learning distro. These will not be discussed in any of the Gambas Learning Guides.

In the left menu you will find some details on the instaled core applications.

Learning applications

The GambOS learning applications are those applications part of GambOS, that you will learn to build in one of the Gambas Learning Guides. The bulk of the GambOS applications fall in this category.

How to get the applications?

Almost all GambOS applications come pre-installed on GambOS. The few not pre-installed are with a reason. You will install them yourself, once you get at a certain point in the guides, as before that time they would ruin the flow of the learning experience.

If not on GambOS, in the left menu Repository, check if your distro supports adding the GambOS repository, and follow the instructions there to get GambOS Software Center installed. From there you can install all the applications mentioned here.

Disclaimer: The GambOS applications are designed to be used with Gambas 3.19.6+bpo on a customized Debian 12 Mate 1.26.0 desktop, named GambOS 2.0. Using a different Linux distribution or Gambas version might result in unexpected layouts or parts not working as expected. Most applications require X11 and will not work on Wayland!
